The Transgender Education Foundation scholarship awards ten scholars of any academic discipline, including independent study with $6,000 split into two payments throughout the academic year. This scholarship is paid directly to the student, who will have complete agency over where they allocate their funds.
These funds are intended to be used for students undergoing social, medical, and legal gender transition who are experiencing financial difficulty balancing gender transition and academic costs.
We recognize that there are many barriers trans and/or nonbinary students face that may prevent them from entering college with a high GPA. These barriers include but are not limited to mental health, unemployment, food insecurity, and inaccessibility to gender-affirming spaces. The purpose of this scholarship is to eliminate the obstacles that may prevent Black trans and/or non-binary students from achieving and completing post-secondary education.
In the next 12 months, we aim to offer four additional scholarships to increase our reach; Humanities, STEM, Arts, and a scholarship for Community Activists.
Scholars who are not selected to join a funded cohort have the option to join our secure database of students who will receive access to relevant events, workshops, additional scholarship opportunities, and more.
